Goodbye The Loves

We're sad to say goodbye to our old friends THE LOVES who play their retirement show tomorrow, Sun 13th February at The Lexington in London.

Without The Loves there would never have been The School, and I would not have become a promoter. It feels like part of me has died.

When I was in The Loves we played 4 John Peel sessions, including one from Peel Acres. We supported the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at The Garage, we played CMJ in New York, and we shared the stage with some awesome bands like Of Montreal, The Cribs and The Soft Boys.

Funfacts aside, the years I had in The Loves were some of the best of my life. Good times, good music and meeting some of the nicest people on the planet.

Simon Love helped me write some early songs for The School - he composed most of 'All I Wanna Do' when I only had a rough tune, he wrote the heart-wrenching lyrics for 'I Want You Back' and verses for recently released track 'Tell Me'. He gave me the confidence to record our early demos and convinced me that our music was worth making.

If you're not familiar with The Loves, I would suggest starting with the following tracks which are some of my favourites. You'll find them on i-Tunes, from Fortuna Pop or possibly eBay. Their albums are called 'Love', 'Technicolour', 'Three' and 'Love You'.

THE LOVES - recommended listening:

She'll Break Your Heart
Little Girl Blues
Chelsea Girl
Boom A-Bang-Bang-Bang
I'm Gonna Get F**ked Up
Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!
Love
Honey
Goodbye
I My She Loves You
Summertime
You Don't Have To (cover)
One-Two-Three
Love Song #7
That Boy Is Mine (School cover!)

Tuesday, 21 December 2010

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas

So it's nearly the end of 2010 and we're a very happy School indeed, we got to release our debut album 'Loveless Unbeliever' on our amazing label Elefant Records, which has already started appearing in loads of 'Best of 2010' lists alongside Proper Famous Bands.

We worked with some great people, played with some lovely bands and spent some time in some far-off places..

We've got one last new track for you before Christmas - 'Tell Me' was recorded at the same time as 'Loveless Unbeliever' but with the intention of being released as a little extra sneaky song between albums.

The track is available on Elefant's new compilation 'Space Escapade' from
Elefant Records / i-Tunes / Spotify / Deezer.

If you're in the UK it's also available for a short period as a free download from 7digital - but if you can't get it through any of the above don't worry you can still listen to it on our MySpace page

We hope you have a very lovely Christmas and we'll be back with a brand new album later in 2011! xxx

Rock'n'Roll High School

We played a charity show at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff this weekend, so decided as we'd played here recently that we'd do a Ramones themed set.

We didn't have time to get together as many songs as we'd hoped originally, so unfortunately some of your favourites will probably be missing! But this is what we played:

Rock'n'Roll High School
That Boy Is Mine (new School song that sounds a bit Ramonesy)
Sheena Is a Punk Rocker
I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (School style)

Pretty in Pink (limited edition vinyl..)

Yesterday was a very happy day for us, we just discovered that MOLLY RINGWALD is somehow a fan of The School!

The actress from Breakfast Club / Pretty In Pink / Sixteen Candles (and more recently US TV show The Secret Life of An American Teenager) featured 'All I Wanna Do' in her top 15 Celebrity Tunes.

"This song just makes me feel happy. It's very young. You just want to hold hands with someone while you listen to it."

***************************************

Also yesterday EVERETT TRUE posted 'All I Wanna Do' as his Song of the Day!

"It's still a mightily lovable sob of pop".

Let me explain..

RELEASES

Our album release date will be announced very soon, it's going to be in Jan/Feb 2010 now so we have enough time to promote it. We're truly sorry to have kept you waiting so long.

In the meantime we've just found out that 'And Suddenly' (our cover of the Left Banke out now on Slumberland Records as a split single with George Washington Brown) will be featured on an indiepop compilation from Rough Trade - more details coming soon!

YO, TAMBIEN

You can hear a couple of our songs in the film 'Yo, También' ('Me, Too') which is about the life of Pablo Pineda (who stars in the film), the first European with Down Syndrome to achieve a university degree. We're honoured to be part of such a beautiful film, it's out in October 09. Hopefully it'll be in an independent cinema near you soon..

Here's the trailer, which features 'I Don't Believe in Love' from the Let It Slip EP, a duet between Liz and our old drummer Rob, who is now better known as The Voluntary Butler Scheme. xx

Say you'll come out..
